Come to know Szczyrk and its surroundings
Szczyrk is a town located in a valley along the Żylica stream, surrounded by the mountain peaks of Klimczok (1117 m), Skalite (863 m), Kotarz (965 m) and the highest mountain of the Beskid Śląski - Skrzyczne (1257 m). Along with Wisła, Ustroń, Brenna, and Istebna, they form the so-called Beskid Five promoting the tourist attractions of the region. In winter, the town swathed in snow becomes one of the most visited ski resorts in the country. Especially now, after the recent modernization of the skiing infrastructure, with 40 km of pistes, the town takes its pride in the highest length of pistes in Poland. The ski resorts situated on the north slopes of the mountains, with additional artificial snowmaking ensure that skiers and snowboarders can use their attractions for long winter seasons. The realised investments allowed the town to aspire again for the title of the winter capital of Poland.
Special attention should be paid to the development of the ski complex of Szczyrk Mountain Resort where, since the season of 2017/2018, new chair and gondola lifts have been operating. Pistes have been modified, and thanks to the construction of a water reservoir on Hala Skrzyczeńska, the resort can pride itself in an efficient snowmaking system. And this is not the end of good news for the winter sports enthusiasts. Further investments are planned for the nearest few years.
There is also a chair lift onto Skrzyczne in the area of the town, which is open all year round and popular among tourists, hikers and bikers. There is a mountain shelter on top of the mountain, there are numerous hiking trails, and a view onto the surrounding mountains, towns, and Żywieckie lake. In the winter season, when visibility is good, you can even see as far as the Tatra mountains.
Going in the direction of Wisła, you can stop on the Salmopolska mountain pass where there is a ski rental centre and cross-country skiing routes which lead to the bottom of Barania Góra mountain. There is a complex of all-year ski jumps on the other side of the town, the highest of which is K-95 and holds championship rank competitions.
Fans of active lifestyle may also use the ice-rink, curling rink, sports swimming pool of COS, and Tropikana Aquapark in Wisła.
In the winter season, numerous ski rentals and ski schools for beginners operate in the town. In the period of winter school holidays, the youngest visitors can benefit from activities at ski kindergartens where they can learn the skiing ABC under the supervision of qualified staff.
The above described attractions make Szczyrk a popular leisure area, both for a short weekend trip and for a longer stay. The town has all-year-round accommodation facilities of various standards, and the tasty regional dishes can be enjoyed in the many eating places along the main street.
